Different Types and Functions of Liquid Level Sensors

 

Liquid level sensors are primarily used to monitor free-flowing substances for the proper regulation of different processes involved in varying industries. Most of the time, these substances are liquid in form. But even so, you can still use these sensors to measure some solids like those that come in powdered variants. Most liquid level sensors are used as industrial sensors. They have been around the market for several decades now. For example, in the automotive industry, liquid level sensors help monitor liquids present in vehicles like power steering fluid, fuel, and oil. All of them are created for the same primary purpose, and that is to detect the level point of a wide range of liquid substances. But even so, different liquid level sensor models are used to measure a variety of point levels.

 

One type of liquid level sensor utilizes magnetic flow techniques. In this case, the magnet goes up and down following the liquid it is monitoring. When the magnet and the fluid reach a certain level, the sensor will be activated. Oftentimes, you will find a reed magnetic switch inside the container. The switch provides notification when the liquid reaches the maximum or minimum level. Moreover, you will find these sensors to come with a protective shield. A conductive liquid level sensor is another common type of liquid level sensor. It particularly uses a low-voltage power source. Inside the container, you will find the presence of at least two electrodes. The sensor will activate a switch alarm when the liquid reaches a certain marked point.

 

Another common type of liquid level sensor is the pneumatic sensor. This type of liquid level sensor is often used to measure hazardous liquids. For any system where sensors cannot get in contact with the fluid, the use of these liquid level sensors is a must. It detects the air level between the liquid and the sensor and then calculates the estimated amount of fluid required to fill the entire container.
